About Runaway Dorothy:

It's been quite some time since a band like Runaway Dororthy has captivated ears frrom start to finish. Hailing from the foothills of North Carolina, Runaway Dorothy specialize in honesty through their songs while keeping it simple and delivering them with more heart than most musicians today. Tracks like "Takes A Lot of Love" and "Too Young", broadcast the aforementioned statement loud and clear.

Growing up in the South, Runaway Dorothy absorbed the sounds of country music and the folk songs of their parents, and time would expand their musical palate to include some of the great European/UK bands. The result is a unique combination of American songwriting set to a backdrop of European textures. If you didn't know any better you'd swear you've known them all your life. Their songs are your songs, and their stories are your stories. It's as if your best friend has put your life to music and is now singing it just for you.

The Arc, the bands debut full length album, is filled with heartfelt tunes through the melancholy voice of David Parnell. If you were to compare him with some other notable singers, it is easy to say he is a combination of the Dylan's [Bob and Jakob]. While some might scream at the comparison of Bob Dylan, David's voice is authentic and shows presence just like Bob.

These young North Carolina boys are on the right path to success and it's only a "matter of time" before music blogs start talking non-stop about them."

The Arc Reviewed

It's not every day that you come across a record from a band that makes you feel their heart, passion, and life experiences in their words and the way they strum the guitar but thatŐs what you get from Runaway Dorothy and their debut full-length album, The Arc.

The Arc, is a fresh perspective that breaks from cliche love songs and embraces the ups and downs that come with having loved and lost. These songs aren't about trying to win back the love of your significant other but relishing the moments you had with the person and growing from them.

After a listen to the record, you could easily compare him to Jakob Dylan (post-The Wallflowers, also, Bob Dylan's son). There is an emphasis on the vocals and acoustic guitar stylings, forcing you to listen and inevitably capturing your emotions.

The lyrical strength of David Parnell's work is evident on his song, 'Takes Alot of Love', where he hits you right in the heart with this line 'it takes a lot of love/to leave you alone'. I've yet to hear a line that came so close to capturing the emotion of putting someone behind you and not bothering them, though all you want to do is hear their voice one more time. Parnell was able to do it.

Another track of the 11-song LP worth checking out is 'Hard Way Home'. It's about that one voice that will put a smile on your face every time you hear it. You can't help but be there no matter what that person has done to you, bad or good.

On 'Nights Like These Here', it's about the kind of love you know isn't right for you and probably won't work out but for that one night, nothing else seems better or makes more sense.

Overall it's a straight-forward record that isn't overbearing in anyway. You hear the acoustic guitar, or a little of the banjo and the harmonica and you feel like you're experiencing a love-story first-hand, full of heart.
